Ode to a Blank Sheet of Paper

~

~

What are you?

~

A blank, a hollow. To be approached, with caution, respect and fear…

or perhaps with excitement.

An expression of me as I pour forth, my soul onto you.

~

Perceptions differ, when you promise so much but with your blank stare.  You can ruin days with that impenetrable facade.

You are the affair that can go wrong – the cruel mistress of empty failure – or so, so right.

~

You are open and closed, in two states fused together; tempting, teasing and merciless.

Ready on my whim, you open yourself to my thoughts, my deepest imaginings,

Impassive in the recording, you stand up to the intensest scrutiny, my eyes taking in everything that you possess.

~

You are what you are.

An enigma. The best of me, sometimes the worst of me, always a mirror to my thoughts.

My mute companion through so many journeys never witnessed by others, my secret life.

~

My finite obsession.

    1. I was all grumpy last night and was sitting in front of OpenOffice and this self fulfilling poem just happened upon me. It did cheer me up and I even got up at the late hour of 7AM today in order to tweak it.

    1. I did try and do something a little different for me. I am glad you liked it and having read your pieces, I am well chuffed that you would mine. Consider me encouraged!

  1. This is strangely appealing! Actually, it’s my first time of reading a poem on your site and I love it! Hope you’ll post more. You must have a great muse… 🙂

    1. There are a few more of my poems around, it’s a rare thing for me at the moment but as you say with such a muse as I possess then more is just around the corner.

  2. Oh my! I pop over to yours and what awaits me but this glimpse into you….letting words speak for you in a most exceedingly exquisitely enigmatic manner….revealing everything and nothing…

I honestly loved this so much I cannot choose a favorite line or two, or three. All I can say, is just….yes, oh yes this is decadently divine and I politely demand more… xxxxxx

    1. It is a treat to me that it was a surprise to you. I like to think I can still keep up the ninja flashes for you every so often. Your awesomely appreciated alliteration always a-makes me ‘appy. For once I got in touch with a more playful and lighter side of me which is very difficult for this English guy sometimes. xxxxxx

    1. Find two words you like…form a sentence, any sentence and write that blank away…that’s how I started my often referred to and never seen on here book.

      1. That’s one of the reasons I like the Write Now prompts. Sadly, sometimes time gets away from me and I miss out till the next one…and the next one ~sigh~

        1. Time is rubbish, always gets away from us. I have managed to get myself into a rhythm of writing constantly and now I am going to milk it for all I can until I get back to that no time, no inspiration zone.

  3. A empty sheet of paper is much like a bed beckoning a lover. So much can go right or not. Great imagery without taking it too far. Made us all voyeurs of your mind. Nice.

    1. I thought I would writ something subtle, just to see if I could. I’m glad I kept it the right side of whatever the right side it is.

    1. That day I was struggling to find something to write, I inverted the whole process though and wrote through my own annoyance…cunning, eh!
