Music To My Ears

Perhaps I get more inspiration out of a pint or two than I really should do but nothing beats spending a bit of time at the pub, getting lost in a book and if anything comes to mind with that heady mix of literature and alcohol, well all the better.  The music at my local The Bold Forester encouraged me to keep the inspired feeling for this post and was a handy excuse to stay for one more pint as I wrote these notes.

The photo above is a Ste’s eye view of what I saw, complete with blurry vision of those long-range areas, just like my defective eyes!  There is something to be said for the ambiance of a reading place and my atmosphere was solely based on an eclectic and impressive choice or tunes, which only lacked something classical.

I have wanted to do a music post for ages but for some reason not gotten round to it, yet there I was hunkered in a corner, writing down various phrases on my phone – as I forgot my notebook – keeping one eye on my (naturally) precariously low battery and finally the aural magic captured me to compose.  It does make me wonder how many times the subliminal soundtrack that accompanies me as I read has inspired me to the words I use when reviewing books.

What I enjoy most about this particular place is the assorted ensemble of bands piped in to the patrons, that seems to run the gamut of nearly all genres..  There was plenty of 80’s classics,  Fame, White Wedding, Tell it to My Heart, Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey and of course, Don’t You Want Me.  The YMCA came on as well and I was almost as happy as that construction worker,  check him out in the video, he is having a whale of a time!  I don’t know if that says something for my observational skills or my obsession for cheesy moments in life.

Being the season of course there were plenty of Christmas songs, Band Aid to make us remember the people who suffer, through to the terrorist music of Let it Snow, which will forever be associated with Alan Rickman and the bad guys from Die Hard.  Feeling in the spirit with the songs and having succeeded in now being just two presents shy of my actual target for this year, I lamented my lack of hilariously unfashionable seasonal sweater.

I was then transported to the glorious summer of ’96 bewilderingly by the spice girls when life was good, England had a football team to rival any and that is all you need to remember an era.  Before any other decent reminiscences of that time could come up, there came what was possibly the 80’s film hour with such magnificent tracks such as the Ghostbusters theme and the Eye of the Tiger which just goes to prove that that decade was the best for film music but that is another blog entry in waiting…

The conundrum of posts such as this is the fine line between being inspired to write properly and getting home in time to actually do so on the laptop before enthusiasm or common sense takes over, that challenge of walking home on the cusp of motivation and inventiveness is something I am yet to master the art of.  Still if this post wasn’t absoludicrous enough then please allow me a minute and 22 of your seconds to make it worth, your while getting this far.
