Lists (because that’s what gets the views #shameless)

Whilst we are all appreciating our living room walls as never before, it makes sense to share what has been diverting my attention and hopefully will give you something to do as well.

Grabbing some reading time is always handy for a book blog, as well as a mixture of sci-fi, philosophy, essays, I have also been hunting through obscure books thanks to Gutenberg.  Free books, albeit read on a screen, is a treat.

From that I can segue neatly onto the proofreading. Originally conceived to assist Project Gutenberg, Distributed Proofreaders is now the main source of PG e-books.  I do my bit everyday and am bookmarking some obscure works to read once they have been through the various rounds of proofing and formatting.

For those of you with any interest in how I look or sound, I present to you a vlog in which Crissy and I ramble a bit about LDRs and such.  If anyone wishes me to do a book vlog, please let me know, and also feel free to share any ideas for said project.

Keeping with YouTube, we have been watching lots of informative documentaries too.  BBC’s Horizon has some good stuff, as do the mainly literature based documentaries that can be found.

More free resources, for those who love to wander the highways and byays of literature past, check out UK RED, as well as the Futurelearn free courses, amongst others.

And to conclude fittingly, I am also compiling lists of books that I wish to read, as well as clearing my Amazon wishlist as they stopped me posting reviews as I choose not to shop with them.

  1. As someone who writes romance…I LOVED THIS! Yes, I did watch the entire video and I enjoyed it so much. You two are adorable together and such great chemistry. Crissy, I followed Ste J’s blog before he met you and I remember when he first started mentioning you. I’m so happy for you guys. I’m looking forward to your next video. I loved the armpit story. LOL! Stay well!

    1. We will do more videos soon, and regularly too, glad you liked it. Crissy is the creative force with YouTube, I just turn up and try not to do it wrong.

The armpit thing was weird but that made it all the more comical when we came across it in a school book that Crissy filled in.

  2. A love story! Always wonderful to open with that! I do have a book recommendation for a book that once was famous and is probably now considered obscure outside of China, which is where it’s from. It’s called “The Dream of the Red Chamber,” and is a long, involved drama involving an imperial court. I was lucky enough to latch onto a copy that was specially suited to be a linguist’s dream: it had the “flowing” English approximate translation on one side of the page, and the absolutely literal translation on the other page. The reason this was so interesting was because the literal translation gave all the exact idioms as they actually appeared, and you could see how the language was structured philosophically, though you had to look at the figurative translation to see what the idioms and poetic expressions actually meant in English. I would’ve loved to have had a copy of it, but it was from a library, and so had to be returned when I finished with it. But with some of the bookstores you’ve written about, it wouldn’t surprise me if you were able to find a copy of the facing-page double translation version. Hi, Crissy!

    1. Now that sounds like an interesting book, I’ll keep an eye out for that one. I like to read something different, and language is fascinating.

Speaking of which, our next video is to do with language…and the butchery of it.

    1. We did ramble on a bit but want to be putting more videos out there soon to keep everyone amused. I may do the odd book post and Crissy wants to do make up videos so on top of all the requests we should have a lot going on.

  4. Documentaries are a great alternative to “news.” We’ve been focusing there, although my preference by far is reading. I’m a kindle reader and have a nice fat backlog to work through. I enjoyed your vlog too – adorable. 🙂

    1. Thank you for giving it a whirl, it is early days but we hope to put some mre random stuff up there, to amuse everyone. I don’t blame you with the reading, there is so much at our fingertips now that it really would be rude not to.

    1. They can indeed, it always takes a ton of effort when the distance is so big but we made it through. Although some of the ideas for videos that people are suggesting could put a strain on the relationship haha.
