Checking the Listings

For 30p a time, the library will allow me to order books in, if they have them anywhere in stock.  This has led me to trawl my Amazon wish list for a number of the books  – I couldn’t very well look to claim all 800 or so – that I haven’t been able to source at bookshops.  I am hoping to be able to get some of these within the next few months. It’s cheaper than a second hand bookshop and keeps the service afloat so all is good, and a worthwhile investment.

  2. Why not try “The Ship of Fools” by Katherine Anne Porter as well, the famous one? It’s well worth a read. And my advice for “Under the Volcano” is, read it all quickly in a drunken stupor, as that is really what it is about, and then try to forget. And the movie is very intense, but really sucks.

    1. I had no idea there were two, but I am always up for adding another book to the list. I am intrigued by the advice to read Under the Volcano drunk, although I am not averse to doing so. As a method reader I will be drinking Johnny Walker with my next Hitchens read.

  3. I am fortunate in that often when I request a book not in stock the inter library department will search it out. Sometimes they even order it and I am the first to read it.

    1. It’s a great feeling to be the first person to break in a book, so to speak. The problem is that there is so little time in which to read everything.
