Now that I’m back and not going away for a bit, I have decided to either annoy you or interest you, depending on your enjoyment or aversion to a certain television programme…

The 23rd of November will mark the anniversary of one of the longest running shows in TV history.  Doctor Who has, is and will continue to be an epic show with much to discuss in all aspects of it…which is handy as over the coming months I will posting loads of Doctor Who stuff, reviews of one story per Doctor, book reviews,fan pieces et al.

For those of you who just haven’t watched enough Who to get into it, don’t despair though, as I will be continuing with all my usual stuff, book reviews, creative writing, rambly posts and so forth, as well. All this and that much feted and long awaited (maybe) 200th blog post of which I am 11 away from revealing my face and voice for all you curious people out there.  Hopefully the content of the blog will be balanced and consistent and so there will be something for everyone to enjoy.  Either way it promises to be a hectic few months my friends.

          2. Or Tegan or Peripathetic or Turlough. As for the Doctor, even after all these years, I still can’t come to terms with seeing Colin Baker as the Doctor. I keep seeing him in black leather as Bayban the Butcher. I just can’t take him seriously.

  2. 50 days to the 50th anniversary.

    I am looking forward to the 50th anniversary. Did you know that Peter Capaldi, the 12th Doctor, is in the film World War Z, and he plays … W.H.O. Doctor. I may have mentioned that before. I just find it ironic. Peter Capaldi and Karen Gillan were both in Dr Who previously – the Pompeii episode.

    1. I had no idea my timing was so impeccable, I was going to post this yesterday but wasn’t in the mood, I am proud of my flukiness. When people mentioned Capaldi for that reason, I thought it was one of their double bluffs, looks liked they triple bluffed me lol. I recall Ian Marter being both Harry and also a sea captain in Carnival of Monsters and Colin Baker being in it befre being the Doctor but I am sure there are loads of other examples…in an infinite universe the bizarre happend, that is always my excuse for anything like this. I hope my range of posts are as comprehensive as I plan!

      1. Your timing was impeccable. I only watched part of the Colin Baker ones. The thing is, the Doctor flies backwards and forwards in time so often, it is possible for him to encounter himself without knowing who he is. Look at the Master at the end of time. He was Yana and had no idea he was The Master.

        1. Derek Jacobi plays The Master, never thought I would see that lol. I always enjoy the Doctors meeting each other but most of all I enjoy when the BBC puts a whole series together rather than splitting it!

    1. Sylvester McCoy! I only started watching in the last two classic series but there were some great moments…I think The Curse of Fenric almost ruined my sleep for weeks and has always stayed with me, Ace abseiling down a church, you don’t get that in Babylon 5! And your own, sir?

      1. Well I have two – classic and new. Peter Davison and David Tennant. I didn’t care too much for Sylvester McCoy as I flame him for getting the show cancelled – him and his silly question mark emblazoned clothes 🙂

        1. I thought the question mark motif went well with what they were trying to do, making him all mysterious. It is a shame they never got to do what they wanted in what would have been series 27. Still I suppose without the show getting cancelled, we would still be watching wobbly sets and extremely dodgy special effects these days, lol.

            1. Ace was going to become a trainee Timelord and they were going to continue making the Doctor more mysterious and something of an enigma again. It was quite a new direction for the series or so they say.

    I don’t watch that show. But – since you, Christina, & Alastair watch it – I shall add it to my queue. I want to be part of your Dr Who cool club 🙂

    1. You are always part of any cool club already my friend but as an excuse to eat popcorn and chill out then it is a good one. I shall endeavour to inspire you to watch it with the art of words…probably a begging letter, ha!

  6. I have never seen a single episode of Doctor Who, (only couple of scenes), but I heard and read a lot and I got interested.. So, although I am not a fan (yet!.. hopefully, I’ll engage in series soon) I am looking forward to hear your opinions.

    1. The beauty of this show is that it appeals to everyone, casual watchers, fans of sci fi, people who enjoy the cheesiness of the show, humour, a certain actor, it is very diverse. I hope to get you into it with some well chosen words.

    1. In that case, challenge accepted! I certainly hope I can, I shall be going chronologically through the show so you can always pick out an appealing era for your first jaunt.

  8. Ok, SteJ, you may never want to speak to me again after this comment! We watch very little television and I must admit to not having seen Doctor Who. I’m wondering how one can go about seeing past seasons or if this is possible. Must get on the bandwagon! 🙂

    1. I don’t watch much Tv either, just Doctor Who and the football, the soccer variety that is. There are many DVDs around, YouTube sneakily has some uploaded and of course Netflix is always good for a few seasons. There are around 800 episodes to watch as well. Although the older stories came out with seperate episodes for the stories, whilst the modern ones are more self contained to one or sometimes two episodes. I am hoping to be giving you a better overview with the posts though!

        1. To true! The more I read and think about it, the more the show becomes epic both on screen and off. There culd technically be a time hen all stories relate in some way in the most mental web ever!

          1. I think that will be the case. With the latest Doctor Who series’s, the episodes seem to have a thread of one long story running through them. Particularly when Amy was in it.

            1. That’s true, Asylum of the Daleks tied up the question of how they knew the Doctor in Genesis but not in the first TV meeting of the adversaries. I do love a good thread and such a diverse storyline as to combine all the shows would be monumental and so ambitious, it would make it the best show ever…even better than Twin Peaks, arguably!

That was always the question, he met them there first…in their timeline, but they didn’t recognise him in the first meeting in his timeline, surely they would have remembered such an enemy. Any show that clears that up after how many years? is always going to be one of the best ever.

        You are so dragging it out and building the suspense! Do you have a deep voice? Do you sound like a member of the Royal family? Do you sound like Austin Powers? James Bond? Paul McCartney? Do you sip tea with your pinky out? Do you eat spotted dick? What is spotted dick? Haha silly American thoughts….but you with your accent can say anything and it sounds important….that’s how I hear it in my head already. LOL

        1. I’m being dramatic, that is what it is…I have a flair for showmanship perhaps lol. I have a deeper voice than you will hear because for some reason my laptop mic is not the best. I speak right common duck…is the answer to those questions. Spotted dick is fruit and sponge and all steamy, it goes down as every kids nightmare…except for the weird kids, of course. I hope I live up to the expectation in your head…there is much pressure on me now lol.
