The Place of My Contemplation

4f81d77666eab

Phantasmal in its construction,

enchanting in its realisation,

a place where residing is welcome,

solitude disturbed only by the whimsy of imagination.

###

There is a place that consumes that twilight field on the edge of sleeping.

In this world of impulse and fancy,

mysteries conjuring enigmas,

even the hallucinations are illusory.

~~~
Undertones haunt,
of faintly sinister presences.
Companions on the impenetrable quest.
Their unreal deviances becoming peripheral.
###
Revelatory images,
solid as ethereal forms can be.
Pulsing through the veins of this earth come the grandiose, the pompous, the prosaic and the lusterless.
In this ancient place we are forever young and easily led through its arcane mysteries,
the unknowable is unexpected.
~~~

This is our place, the place of escape,

the place we never escape.

The fancy of ingenious fantasy or the cage of the unwary.

We dare to dream because we forget, we dare to dream for we must.

    1. Thank you, it is still tentative new territory for me. I spent ages reworking it getting less closer to finishing it, I almost gave up and binned the lot. Monday got stressful for a bit, lol.

      1. Sorry there has been a clear day rainbow a couple of times. Unfortunately my camera doesn’t pick it up well.

        You wouldn’t believe that you were new to this. The way you use the words, you do so like a pro. You use prose instead of poems. Not using rhyming words like I do. You go more for the feelings which makes it a far better form of poetry.

        The amount of times that I have gone to bin a poem. The amount of times I HAVE binned a poem. At least once you publish it, then it is done and out into the big wide world 🙂

        1. Perhaps not a better form of poetry just a different sort…rhyming has it’s place and always makes a poem sound like running water to me…I struggle to rhyme which is probably sue to the influence of to much prose and not enough poetry, so you are right in there in your observations.

          I have thought of saving all the old lines and using them again in something else, cannibalising it and reducing my metaphorical carbon footprint, if you will. Your words inspire to keep having a go and publishing more…Boom! It is a good Monday lol.

  1. When you wax poetical like this, I can’t help wondering if you’ve been reading Marquez again (do I detect an influence? Someday when you’re famous for your poetry, I’ll be the first wannabe I-told-you-so around!).

    1. After realising I have read a good half of Márquez’s back catalogue, I am trying to slow down on him and savour his words…he is a powerful writer and I do love magical realism, so yes I believe you are right, influences haven’t been at the forefront of my mind but that will be interesting to muse upon…I am glad I never read the Twilight series…just in case that came out in my words lol.

  2. Beautiful piece Steve…a lot of big words in here but I think they contributed well to the fantasy feel of this poem. Very well done. Thanks for pointing me to it too 🙂

    1. Due to my literary tastes, I tend to litter all my writings and everyday language with big words…as one of the people who have inspired me with their wonderful words, as well as the confidence to post, then it is really thanks to you that it is here. High fives all round!

  3. This is deliciously divine with powerfully evocative images! Your words paint a place so vivid and real and yet mysterious and intangible…a place I’d love to visit and not leave…this has transported me…into the dreamscape…for that I thank you. I most sincerely wish…nay…hope you will write more…and then some more…I am politely demanding! xxxx~

    1. Haha, I will do my best to write more. When an idea hits I will acquiesce and put something down on paper. I like to think that I made the Dreamscape just tangible enough for you to explore it in more depth and put your own personal stamp on it and live there…with visits from moi of course, so put the kettle on. xxxx

You spilled nary a drop and I shall come up with a new ‘interesting’ concoction when my money gets tight again, you encourage me to get creative with my vile cocktails lol.

                I’ve been around money for years and it doesn’t make you happier. What it gives is freedom and choices. I can’t stand snobbery of any kind. Have a great weekend. Hugs Paula xxx

I am nice like that…all this ambition and greed for more money that goes on embarrasses me. Have a great weekend yourself, have cheese.

  5. The only problem I had with this poem is its rhythm. One moment it’s there, the next one – gone. Did you wrote reading it aloud? Haven’t read any of your other poems (yet) but, based on writings I have, I judge you can make this poem even better…
    Yesterday I had trouble concentrating on my own writing so I amused myself reading first couple of months posts on your blog. I like your ways with style and composition, and I find your vocabulary delightfully exhilarating.
    I don’t have to say keep up the good work because you obviously will.

    1. I deliberately made it quite a disorientating read, rhythm wise, to reflect the strangeness of the world and unpredictability of it all. The longer later stanzas reflect the deepening of the sleep. Perhaps an experiment to far…something to think upon, thanks for your words my friend.

      I am hoping to do something quite BIG at some point later this year but it will take some time to sort out and plan. I always appreciate your opinions and your visits and it is good to see you writing blog posts, I shall attempt to keep improving my style for your reading pleasure.

      1. I quite like the idea.. Maybe more verses 🙂 is just what this poem needs – you know, three or four stanzas for each state thus allowing the rhythm of each to be fortified and consequently abandoned..
        I do wander what is that big thing.. A vlog you have mentioned in your comments?.. Whatever it is – it will most certainly be of quality and I’m looking forward to it.

            What is it about the accents.. It’s not just words sounding more beautiful.. I’ll have to find some essays and research papers to inform myself a little bit better on the subject.

              Accents are an interesting thing, same with language. Sounds like a blog post to me. By the way your comments come up with annaamunsden.wordpress.com which doesn’t exist, you may want to change that to up your hit rate.

      1. Well I may be a little busy around here… but I’m not going to miss a poem by Ste J !!! Not to worry – even if I’m absent at times..I’ll try to get my fill. It is wonderful you are venturing into poetry… I think you have such a vast comfort level with words/vocabulary/literary flow from all the reading, it may come more easily to you then you might expect. Best advice from me who really just got into the creative end of writing recently, allow yourself free reign on first draft ~ analyze it as little as possible – at least until it’s in its final raw form. Let it flow from your heart and the rest will just unfold. You have so many great supporters here… love boomie ~ and I see Christina cheering you on — and of course Penny and ME ~ the list will grow and grow! So maybe it will be a 1 or 2 x a week poem amongst some awesome book reviews? How exciting ~ Ok back to contemplating now dear friend:) Sending love! ~ RL
