Morn (and evening) in the USA Part the Final

At some point, I demanded, nay expected to go and have a classic American Burger, my only criteria being that I’d like something to see me through the day, instead it kept me full for two whole days.  To begin with though you have to start off with the ordeal that is the choice, we don’t get that in England, you pick your meal and you eat it.  The unwritten rules clearly state that you may ask for something to be taken off your meal but that is all.

Imagine my surprise when Christina asks for half the stuff to be taken off hers and a lot more stuff be added, thus changing the entire burger to something else not actually on the menu.  What insanity is this?   Then I was assailed from all angles with choice: different sides, extra stuff, desserts, how I liked things done. I was ready for the food after that trial.

027When I was asked if I wanted Jo Jos, I had to query what they actually were, then immediately fall back on the old apology, “sorry, I’m English”, which in all fairness C. got in there first.  Quite a few times.  Sometimes a bit to quickly.  I hasten to add I didn’t ask what they were when they came out, I asked at the menu stage, for I have seen a potato before, even around where I live in Mansfield.

At one point C. asked me to remind her to go to Walgreens, so naturally being annoying and a tad lazy, I reminded her there and then and afterwards proceeded to exclaim Walgreens! at random intervals in public places, if I had money, I would be eccentric but being poor I am just seen as yet another crazy person pottering around America, it almost felt like home.

20130510_234308Really though the best bit was the people, a proper awesome bunch of people, be it Jordan, Emma, Jack, Christina, Penny and assorted animals, or the other awesome people I met, fisherman Max, English Elaine and disappearing Dennis, it was an absolute blast and I miss them all, naturally.

Of course biggest plaudits to my fellow bloggers, P & C for inviting me over and getting me back into the groove of writing and more importantly enjoying it more than ever, you guys are the inspiration behind many of the posts popping up in the coming months betwixt and between some book reviews which will surface in roughly exactly three posts time.

Will I go back again and sample the delights of America, I sure will, it remains a matter of money or indeed if anyone can get me a Visa, for which I am willing to pay $10 cash.

Those eagle eyed readers will have noticed the lack of a mention about the plane travel and the books, those two will be up next to conclude my American diaries proper.   Here’s a cute picture to finish on today to make everyone a bit happier.

  1. I don’t know what Jo Jos are either. I guess my excuse is that I’m a dog. But I am an American dog. And I gather it’s a food item, so you’d think I’d know. Glad you had a good journey.

    1. Without opposable thumbs people have probably never asked you about such food, but they are fried potato wedges, allthis talk of Jo Jos has made me wish I tried them. It was the best journey since Jason went after that golden fleece.

        1. The journey home will be the subject of my next post, well a bit of my journey home. French fries are addictive indeed, there is a place I hear about that fills your plate with fries when you finish them. Fantastic looking forward to that next time I head your way.

  2. I saw that photo and my first impression was “Bloody hell!!!” That’s not a burger, that’s half a damn cow. I think I prefer the English way of doing things – I’ll have a cheeseburger .. hold the cheese .. hold the burger ,.. hold the salad. That thing is mega! I’m glad you got to meet them. Are they as nice in reality as they are on their blogs? I imagine so.

Love the cat. Is that Frankie or Johnny?

    1. The cat is Sawyer, there is another to complete the quartet Julius who has since seemed to annex my seat and everything. That burger did intimidate me I must admit but I was stoic in my perseverance and finished it and promptly got the meat sweats. Uncharacteristically I then struggles with my beer.

Christina and Penny are exactly how they are on their blogs which was great and had me relaxed straight away. They really are great and I quickly learnt that there is inspiration in any and everything if you just look at it in the right way, which is always a handy lesson for a blogger to learn.

Or so my friends say…so perhaps it wouldn’t be best to base most Americans on the way I do things. Walgreens just won’t be the same without you 😉 Most definitely good times…the bestest! ~ xxxx

          1. It should be a requirement for choosing the finest literature…I have just decided! Books can and do offer the tangible visceral scope of all our senses…if one would just allow oneself to be enveloped by them… xxxx

            1. Well if you have decided then we shall all acquiesce and do as you wish. I shall allow myself to be enveloped in your words on books, I probably will steal that and quote it somewhere as well for I am like that and you won’t mind because you’re great. xxxx

                    5. I shall look forward to that on my coming morning, I always like to have a gleg and see if you have posted. Perhaps I will put a book review in before our book shop jaunt as my fingers are a bit itchy for a review. Yes perhaps I shall be suitably inspired whilst gazing at the books on’t shelves around me. I will attempt something you haven’t read as well as I’m nice.

I hope your night remains productive and you do good stuff as I know you always strive to do. xxxx

  4. I like when Chef Ramsey comes to restaurants in the US & cleans up the menus. You’d think being born & raised here that I’d be use to all the chices. Sometimes it’s a bit much.
(Today as went to the drive-thru at a fast food joint – I ordered a cheeseburger meal with cheese curds instead of fries – lol. So much for my preference for a cleaner menu 😉 )

    1. I watched a series of that and it turned out to be the one where it turned into a soap opera, he does talk sense though. I will have to watch some of the older episodes and see him at his meanest, which is always amusing as I’m not being shouted at. Cheese curds…I have never been a fan of cheese so I shall save any I get for you, they may get a tad cold in the meantime though. I could do with a cheeseburger though (I can just about cope with cheese on the burger but throw some bacon on and I would be in your debt forever.
