Coming Back Brighter

normal_MellonCollieArt25Finally the man who enjoys referring to himself in the third person returns!  It is wonderful to be back, he says, amongst you all and as it happens I/he, have/has, etc, come back refreshed and have more positivity in my writing.

After being dispirited for many reasons, not least my annoyance at my own writing standard, I have now turned the corner and am ready to roll out a bunch more posts and hoping to add more variation to my repertoire.

Recently I have been rediscovering why I l love the English language and all those rare and exotic word combinations, so today I shall be posting a piece of my own work as certain people over the last 7-8 months have been telling me to do, and you know who you are…

But like all modern films, there is a bit of a twist in such as I won’t be giving you any context to my words, I would much rather view them through your eyes so any comments and critiquing would, as always, be greatly received.  Call it an experiment if you like, but I think the context at this point is a tad irrelevant as everyone will interpret it differently.  Now if you will excuse me I have a mountain of blog posts and correspondence to catch up on…

The devastating concoction of the raging opalescence of your firmament, fragmenting against the star streaked sky, provides me staggeringly effervescent dreams of the hitherto corporeal.                                                  Conjuring a scene, an image, created of mysterious meetings on a twilight field the place where we steal our moments, like a drug that obliterates thoughts of sleep.

Frenetic waves of passion felt, crashing onto the double-edged rocks of optimism, raw and persistent power, unstinting in the powerful intensity of the vortex of unrepentant loneliness.

Vast tumuli meet blazing explosions, the backdrop to the noblest of conquests, unsparing in the inability to please.                                                                                                                                                 Reinvigorated light, the sublime cycle of time, the magnificent conjunction of a melancholy hope and a dream of despair.

  1. Wow, where the hell did *that* come from? Those last few lines are an exapmle of your own prose, we have much to look forward to! Out of context, they’re like poetry – no idea what they mean, but the word combinations are beautiful.I speak for everyone when I say…MORE!

    1. It just started in my head, so I combined it with my mysterious muse and the words just came forth like a swarm of hornets from a poked nest. I think I shall be doing more, my confidence has come on quite a lot recently, so yes expect it along the way. I’m glad the man with the published anthology approves…

  2. Welcome back, Steve! I’ve missed you. Whoa, you wrote those things? I am eager to read more! I just hope I will be able to understand it without the aid of dictionary.

    1. I missed you too, it’s great to be back, although rather overwhelming trying to work my way through 60+ blogs and all the posts I have missed, so don’t feel I have forgotten you, I will be here all day methinks reading and commenting. Yup I wrote all the words you see here, it just came to me in words and images and then in a short amount of time it was typed up, then of course I noticed I’d used the same word twice in close proximity so had to do a rethink. Dictionaries are great though, I could read them all day if I had the opportunity…and nothing else to read.

      1. No worries there. I was busy trying to understand your extensive show of vocab that I won’t notice if you repeated a word in one sentence. Have you tried writing poetry here? You have a potential y’know.

I am not sure if I’ll like you to read my recent posts. They are not that interesting…

        1. They are always interesting to me, you can be as harsh a critic as you like but you write well and interestingly and I always like to come and spend time about your place.

I am not a fan of repeating words, it niggles me, I can always find an alternative even if I have to change the whole thing. I have speculated with a bit of poetry, nothing for public consumption though. I’m not sure if what I wrote her qualifies as poetry, I didn’t really plan it as anything, just some words for people to read and hopefully enjoy the imagery.

  3. Wow, what powerful writing! I love that last line especially! Looking forward to more. So happy you are back and have that kick in your words again (I was going to say kick in your step but was aiming for a connection to words, hmm, not sure it worked..). And cool new avatar pic too 🙂

    1. A kick in my step usually leads me to the pavement face first, in my experience, so I will stay with kicking words around. It worked and it’s great to be back and to chat again. I think the self confidence is up enough to start writing my own stuff again, I did wobble for a bit. I’ve had the beard for months and thought I ought to show it off, together with my new smile lol.

    1. I have been in the mood for something wordy, I lost that love for a while but it’s back now and so the blogging world becomes bright for me again. So much has been written since I left, it’s a little intimidating trying to catch up, I have been reading blogs now for four hours or more now.

    1. Again my mystery comes to the fore. Strangely I find it difficult to write my own stuff, I am more comfortable in reviewing books, but having leapt off the edge of the harbour, I will be swimming in the swirling sea of words more often. I’m glad you liked it, I shall endeavour to coax more out of myself in the near future.

    1. I shamelessly stole that from the inside are of a Smashing Pumpkins album (Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness), it represents the sun, or maybe moon if you come at it from the other angle. That intrigues me it could almost be some mad sci-fi idea. Either way I love that sort of art so any excuse to pop it in a post.

        1. Self confidence isn’t one of my strong points but just recently….Penelope the Wise, indeed. I’m glad you didn’t go with Penny the Wise as I would have imagined Bloggaria as one big clown fest.

                    1. Ah so simple, yet that had me flummoxed for a while, that and my inbuilt refusal to soil the nature of the noble punctuation marks.

  7. A shining star indeed. I like it. Have you read it aloud? That may inform you of any stumbles. I would only say to be careful of adverbs or adjectives that modify the verb, sometimes it suggests there is a more apt verb to be found or that it doesn’t require a modifier at all.

There’s poetry in them words and what do you mean you haven’t been on here because your inner critic has been saying stuff – keep that little man quiet and certainly don’t let it stop you from engaging with your more reliable audience here!

    1. The inner critic is a persuasive little bugger but I shall be listening to you fine and noble people in future. I shall now be back for the duration, you will be pleased to know.

Thanks for your advice, I am starting slow (again), with this original writing and was more interested in the imagery than the actual language. I will start to take it all seriously though, I need to study up on the language again and your words will help immeasurably in the crafting of such work.

      1. The imagery is spot on, very evocative, I like the rhythm of the language, which is why I thought you may wish to read it out loud in the shower or even sing it. Why not, could be a revelation 🙂

        1. I shall try this novel idea of shower reciting, I couldn’t ruin my house mates’ good day with a full on song though (I would most likely use the Macarena as a base for the words). I am so thoughtful I amaze myself.
