A New Pair of Boots

Ricky (right) and Maxine (left) Boot. Proper awesome, they are.

Apologies for the long delay in getting back with you all, as last weekend I went to a wedding all the way up in Scotland.  A good 240 miles away (as the Famous Grouse flies) from Mansfield is Gretna Green but that didn’t stop us hardy folk from battling adversity in the form of motorway hold ups, heading up for what turned out to be an absolutely fantastic weekend.

So, naturally I met a bunch of fantastic people and ended up doing many hilarious things: dance offs, not knowing how to get to the church etc,  all the classic things you do at a wedding, if you’re a bit inept like me.

The best thing though was seeing two people whom I love very much having the most awesomest day since records began.  I’ve honestly never seen so many happy people all in one place, when it didn’t involve a car wash and women in bikinis.

Not even the clichéd Scottish weather (rain, with a hint of rain) could dampen the enthusiasm, it was akin to what I imagine an all night rave would be like, just without the whistles and glow sticks. Anyway it was worth every penny and even the £131 bar tab I ran up wouldn’t have been better spent on anything else, even books(!)

Being a bit analytical type, I spent a lot of time people watching and wondering how it could be possible to measure the wave of optimism and down right jollyness of the big day that were cascading around. I never did solve that particular conundrum because the bacon cobs came out and that’s always a thought stopper, so answers on a postcard if you please.

Anyway as I seem to be going off on my usual digressions into the back alleys of arcane oddity and this wave of positiveness carries me into new territories of emotion that I never knew existed, I would just like to wish them both a long and happy life and that they send me plenty of invites around to their place.

    1. It was excellent, there have been many really fun experiences for me recently but I have never laughed as much as this weekend. My ribs were aching, if that is possible.

    1. I’m mixing it up a bit these days, trying to write about other subjects and become a bit more rounded in my style. I have never laughed so much for so long than with that bunch of top people. I’m a Stephen not a Stefan though, although my friends always refer to me as Ste J, so feel free to use that 🙂

  3. You had a fantastic time which is excellent in my book. I am very happy for your friends and pleased it was such a great trip for you. Hey wait a minute, there’s no toast, not even a cracker. Sigh alright, it’s okay…no worries I’ll just quietly slip out then. 🙂

    1. Some other night stalker must have half inched it (are you familiar with cockney rhyming slang at all?). Can’t trust people these days. I will hide some M&M’s under my pillow for you next time.

  4. A little bit re: cockney (from various books I’ve read), so then I need to also be on the lookout for other night stalkers. I will keep that in mind as well! M&M’s are yummy, under your pillow, well there’s a nice thought! 🙂

  5. Nope I cannot imagine not thinking. And I find Imagination is an excellent quality. Nothing better…nothing, well maybe a good book! 🙂 You? Not thinking…can’t happen!

    1. I like a challenge, but if my mind ceased to work I would be happy that the book kept me going. I really want to try mastering mnemonics at some stage. That would be awesome.

      1. Ah yes, what I refer to as “the art of memory”! I think a good place to start would most definitely be a closer look at those internal signals that your mind already sends you when you (want to) remember something. I believe that skill is already inside each of us.

        1. I shall have to devote time to this. In amongst all the other things I would love to get into understanding. I tend not to self reflect, there’s usually to much going on outside the window. There was a fox earlier. Awesome.

  6. What a gorgeous and thoughtful post! Really. You don’t need to know the answer to the question, you just need to go with the flow and ensure you involve yourself in that kind of activity much more often, I do believe it’s contagious 🙂

    1. I am a bit of a recluse but it was thoroughly fantastic, so maybe I have been missing out on the world at large. Although I won’t be saying any vows myself for a while methinks. I’m really glad you liked the post, it seems to be getting a lot of love (to continue the theme).

  7. Congratulations to your friends. I see you have posted this last September. Three months before that I attended my cousin’s wedding. I was one of the bridesmaids and even had the misfortune of catching the bouquet. The saying goes that whoever caught the bouquet thrown by the bride, and the garter from the groom, will be the ones to wed next. I don’t believe in such, but it is still scary.

    1. traditions are okay until they involve you lol. It was a great ceremony, I am normally not an emotional person (a true brit) but some things other than books move me to write and this is one of the few times I have been inspired to do so. I shall pass on your congratulations to them.
